New Mattress

The mattress is the most important piece of furniture in your home. This item gets more hours of use than any other furniture you own. A regular person spends approximately 1/3 of their life in bed. The mattress also contributes directly to your health and well being by providing you a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in which to get the proper amount of sleep. The effects of poor sleeping habits can affect memory, cognitive skills, digestion, bone health and many other functions. A bad mattress can contribute to these problems by robbing you of valuable sleep. On the other hand, a good mattress can be an invaluable tool to better sleep. It is imperative to make sure you have a good mattress that fulfills your individual needs.

If you are always tired in the morning or feel like you need a nap in the middle of the day, you are clearly not getting enough good sleep during the night. This is usually a good sign that you might need a new mattress. There are many other factors in sleep problems, but this is one that you might be able to fix quickly and easily. If you have recently had an excellent night’s sleep and realize it was somewhere other than your own bed, it is time to investigate your mattress.

As a typical rule of thumb, if your mattress is more than 10 years old it probably needs replacing. Your current mattress should be replaced if a noticeable dent has developed in the section where you usually sleep. If sagging across the mattress causes you to roll toward your partner, this is a bad sign as well. If there are lumps, sagging or exposed interior this is an indication of breakdown in certain parts of the mattress inner fillings and springs. Mattresses should not make creaking noises at all when you sit or lay on them. This can mean that the springs in the interior of the mattress are wearing out. If you wake up sore or stiff in the morning or have developed recurring back pain, it could also be a problem of your mattress. It could mean that your back and spine are simply not getting enough support and time to recover during the night.

Some people also do not know how to dispose of their old sleep set when they do decide to purchase a new one. Old mattresses are found in the strangest places including lakes, forests and the side of the road. It is necessary to properly dispose of your mattress and box springs. The first option is to ask the store where you are purchasing your new set if they offer a program to take the old one. If not, your local garbage collection service might offer a program for picking up large items on certain days.

Bottom line, your health and your partner’s health depend on the quality of your mattress. You deserve a good mattress and a good night’s sleep.
